Myrtle Beach Rocks!
March 27th, 2008 Category: Lawson's Wave to Kids, What's Happenin' in Myrtle Beach, Wild Blue's Yonder!
I have been there to enjoy my son’s first steps, first words, and, now, his first rock concert! We went to the House of Blues last week to see Rusted Root. They are a great jam band best know for the single “Send Me on My Way” featured in Ice Age (which hasn’t every parent seen like 20 times?).
We had awesome seats on the upper level courtesy of local real estate attorney Robin Ciaccio. The concert was fantastic and seeing my son’s face as he really absorbed the music was even better. I really want to put a plug in for the opening act One Flew South. They are absolutely the best new band I’ve heard in years. Their harmonies sounded just as pure as The Eagles. We came home and immediately down-loaded “My Kind of Beautiful.”
The next day, my son said (without being prompted) “That was the most awesome day of my life.” Wow. Having my son appreciate good music is important to me, and hearing that comment, well, it was a satisfying mom moment.

Happy Easter!
March 22nd, 2008 Category: What's Happenin' in Myrtle Beach
I just took my son and one of his best friends to an Easter egg hunt. Well, we drove all the way to Murrells Inlet to discover the max age to participate is 8. My son is 11. In the spirit of this time of rebirth and joy, I told them both to go for it! My son is completely, 100% a believer in the big bunny and all the holiday mascots, why should he be denied his fair share of plastic eggs?
So, tomorrow we’re off to Medieval Times for their annual hunt. Age limit 12!
On Sunday, we’ll be enjoying the 11 a.m. Easter service at Unity Church in Surfside. For you early risers, there are many choices for a sunrise service at the beach. Sunrise Christian Church at Garden City beach and the Christian Church at Hurl Park (ocean and 20th S) both at 7 a.m.
Abundance and freedom of spirit to all!

My 15 Minutes of Fame Part II: House Hunters Returns
March 15th, 2008 Category: Real Estate News, Tourist of the Week, Wild Blue's Yonder!
The House Hunters crew that was here in November came back this week to follow up with my buyers, Sarah and Kelly Geyer. This time was a much warmer day and we didn’t have to wear parkas while filming the “shouldn’t it be warm there?” Myrtle Beach episode. The pic includes the Geyers, the sound guy, and myself.
Again, it was a great experience and amazing how time consuming to film each room– get the lighting, sound checks, us screwing up what we said, etc.. We were quite loopy by the end of the day and elated when the producer declared our last scene a “one hit wonder.”
It is going to be incredible exposure for me, and my buyers were so thrilled to have their moving journey filmed for national tv. And, just in case you ask, we have no idea when it will air– months from now. So, my fame will have to wait.

Short Sales
March 7th, 2008 Category: Real Estate News
Before this happens, there is the possibility of a short sale. This option is an agreement between the homeowner and the lender that discounts the mortgage due to a financial hardship. It’s better for both parties than a fore-closure too. Not surprisingly, with the massive sub-prime loans, ARMs, and investor held mortgages, short sales are catching on quick.
Even if you’re more concerned with who will win American Idol than the plummet of our economy (hey, even Simon is more inspiring), you’ve heard that getting a mortgage ain’t what it used to be. Mortgage companies are closing and large lending institutions have lost millions even billions of dollars. The market is so tight now, even lenders want out of their own business.
Fore-closures have not skyrocketed in Myrtle Beach. And, it won’t be as huge of an issue as it already is in other pricier, heavier investor-oriented states. However, short sales are appearing in increasing numbers on the MLS. I showed two beach houses in Surfside Beach last week that are short sales. One has been reduced in price again since then. These homes have great rental histories and rental reservations for the upcoming season already. The owners simply took on too large of a mortgage to handle.
Short sales are a win/win: it helps the current homeowner and gives one heck of a great bargain to anyone smart enough to buy in a down market.
